As many of you know, about a year ago we launched our Napoli underground Channel
, live streaming or on-demand web video entirely dedicated to speleology and everything to do with the underground world. With this new method of spreading news and information it also opens up the ability to use the live webcasting to cover all kinds of events, conferences and meetings that have grown in popularity and become more important year after year.
We began with a weekly series of seven videos. each with a theme from the story of our Naples underground. This was followed with a first live webcast direct from one of our fellow Italian Speleo clubs, and a series of interviews with visiting groups of speleo friends we took down into the labyrinth beneath Naples, many of them international visitors. We recently undertook our first international live hookup linking Brazil, an Italian National Speleo Society meeting on the island of Sardinia with broadcast switching control done in Naples. We had some initial glitches but soon it worked well allowing allowing the international Speleo organizations of Italy and Brazil to meet via our webcast and hammer out a first international accord for sharing speleological information and ideas. Those online for the event included cavers and enthusiasts from Cuba, the USA, Turkey and many of our regular NUg friends in Italy.
We are really proud to have been able to help expand knowledge and understanding with the limited bandwidth webcasting service we use from a free internet-wide server. We now use the free-version which has its limitations including the number of online viewers permitted and quality of video and audio, but it is very good for being free!
NapoliUnderground and the National Federation of Artificial Cavities will be presenting the IV Congress on Underground Archaeology this coming November. This congress, instead of having a central meeting point will, instead, offer this event, "Water of the Past" dealing principally with the many ancient underground aqueducts in Italy, and it will be the first scientific and speleological meeting of its kind to be held entirely on a video-conferenced webcast on Napoli Underground Channel.
Seeing the great interest out there in our international speleological community we would certainly like to explore the possibility of locating a major corporate sponsor or two to underwrite the cost of upgrading the webcasting service to a high bandwidth, HD Quality paid level subscription. This level of service offers a much wider potential audience and near broadcast quality, full screen audio and video. The sponsors would enjoy priority on-screen commercial promotion on all high-band programming on theNUg Channel.
If you have an interest in possible sponsorship, or have leads to companies who might be interested in helping us expand our web broadcasting abilities, please drop us a line at
