After long and hard study it is clear that it is time for a major upgrade of our Napoliunderground web site. It is always difficult to finally toss out that old, really comfortable pair of shoes, but there always comes a time. And after almost five wonderful years of growth, experimentation, visitors pegging the 9.5 million mark, and a wonderful international response to the marvels in the "Parallel City" beneath Naples, it is clear that we must move to a totally new platform and template. We tried to drag the old shoes with us during our efforts to move the whole existing site content using resources of Post Nuke, but it became too unwieldy for us. We are now very excited to be joining in the increasingly popular move to the open source Joomla, which is an award-winning content management system (CMS), for building Web sites and powerful online applications.

Making this historic move will mean hitting the big "RESET" button, and will affect existing registered memberships of our more than 957 members and around 257 users of our popular Speleo Forum . . . but this is 2001 and we are but one of hundreds of thousands of web sites keeping up with the changes demanded by the modern internet . . . and one of the demands includes asking members to take 20 seconds or so to renew memberships on new sites. We will be keeping you posted on our progress, and look forward to your migration and reregistration right along with us to a faster, more modern and varied web experience.

We are still undecided about what we will do regarding access to all more than 1,500 articles, Photos, Features and Forum exchanges. If it is possible to provide some sort of archive service we will do do. But for the moment, our new design, template and Association with Joomla will be a start from a fresh blank page.

It has been my real pleasure these past several years to translate the wonderful efforts of webmaster, Fulvio Salvi, and our family of Speleo friends in Bella Napoli as well as major contributors from Rome and across Italy. I look forward to continuing to bring you new articles on the English Language version of our site. The best is yet to come, and we look forward to your bookmarking our new address when the time comes to kick off the old shoes and make the BIG MOVE!! Stay tuned . . . .
