Newspapers report that the City Clerk's Office has approved a plan to buy the considerable amount of underground property in Naples that has been in the public domain. These spaces consist largely of those one-time quarries that were used as air-raid shelters in WWII and that have since found commercial use as parking garages and other commercial ventures. As it now stands, the private parties who run these properties rent them from the state Office of Public Domain. That would change if this new proposal goes through; monies would go to the Naples City Clerk's Office.
