Italian Trail 106 and the Scalandrone Grotto

Translated Jeff Matthews

Typology: Nature trek and speleology in a karst grotto.

Description: Both the section of Italian Trail 106 and the Scalandrone Grotto are in the Picentine Mountains in the territory of the town of Serino. There are abundant water sources along the way in the form of creeks and streams that will let you resupply. We recommend the use of a 25 meter rope as a hand-guide to get into the first part of the Scalandrone Grotto to avoid slipping on the muddy slope at the entrance. For the second part, the entrance to the waterfall, you should have further rope extensions.

Entrance is free

Difficulty: medium

Distance: 5.5 km (one way)

Changes in level: ascent 302 m, descent m 355 m (going in; invert for return)

City: Serino (SA)

Location: The beginning of the trail is about 12 km south-east of Serino.
