Posted by Fulvio Sunday, Mar. 9th, 2008 Our mentor, the fabled engineer Clemente Esposito, who has almost single-handedly created the fascinating underground "Museum of the Naples Underground" contacted Fulvio and Luca by telephone and asked them to "please come this weekend take a group of Naples speleologists" down for a tour in the caverns and aqueduct. Since Don Clemente regularly hosts visiting speleologists Fulvio, and Luca, minus fellow speleo, Zool, who had an emergency arise, went down with all their climbing gear ready to meet some new explorer friends, wondering who this new group of "Naples Speleologists" might be since they had never heard of them. Arriving, they were surprised to find Clemente and a group of adult sponsors waiting with a small group of bright-eyed ...
Cub Scouts or, "lupetti Scouts" as they are called in Italian. "What are we going to do now?," Fulvio and Luca wondered, but it just took a minute of introductions for both of the experienced explorers to take the kids under their wings and head down into the huge interconnected caverns beneath Naples, and even on a tour through the passageways of the ancient Carmingnano aqueduct. The photos below tell the story of the incredible and unforgettable time the young scouts had. Fulvio is certain that this will be the beginning of a whole new group of up and coming Naples underground speleos! Larry
